Zarautz is located between by the sea and the mountains, it’s one of the most important tourist destinations in Gipuzkoa and the Basque Country. Zarautz is known for its rich cuisine and for the Cantabrian Sea, with a beach that invites you to enjoy a swim in the Summer and imposes a deep respect watching the waves crash in the Winter. That’s why also for what it became, some years ago, a destination for surfing.
Overlooking the sea, on your right you can reach Donostia-San Sebastian in only 15 minutes by car, a city that invites you to stroll along the Beach of La Concha, explore the old town in search of a great variety of pintxos or climb Mount Urgul and listen to the silence in the Englishmen’s Cemetery. At the time of Spring tides, the show moves to the Peine de los Vientos where the waves break with great force. On your left, you will find Getaria, a land of great marines which still maintains its essence as fisher’s port and where you can find the Balenciaga Museum. Zumaia, Deba and Mutriku are other villas you’ll find on your journey through the coast of Guipuzcoa.
Going to the Inland, Goierri expects you, the “Basque Highlands” full of emblematic villages like Idiazabal, with its famous cheese, Ordizia in which you’ll find one of the most important markets in the region, the Middle Age Interpretation Centre in Segura and the Zumalacarregi Museum in Ormaiztegi.
With direct access from the A8 motorway, Bilbao and Vitoria are no more than 40 minutes far. You can visit the Guggenheim Museum, the town of Gernika, the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve or the Salt Valley of Añana in Alava.
